Shtirah – Stillness, Steadiness 03/24/2025

Some Sanskrit words have meanings that unfold on multiple levels: through the intellect, sensations, perspective, and a deep understanding in the body. Shtira, or stillness, is one such word. It is not simply the absence of movement but a direct experience that arises from the higher self.

When we allow stillness into our body, we open space within ourselves for something deeper to emerge, free from the distractions and attractions of the outside world. This stillness invites a presence that goes beyond mere quietness—it is the freedom of movement within the space of nothingness. This emptiness is alive, vibrant, and connected to everything. Consciousness has no limitations. It opens up a field of connectivity that bridges the physical and spiritual world. How much freedom can one feel when this energy emerges to connect? This is the power within, the pure potential that can transform intention into reality. It happens without effort—simply because it is the way of the universe, where there is a natural order.

I am grateful for the teachings I have received from all my teachers, and for the teachings I have been able to share with my students. The practice of stillness is one of self discovery, self study and of learning and teaching, of connecting and being.
